I have a Eliminator water softener. I get salty water in my house every 7-8 days. Is this normal?

Having salty water every few days could be caused by a couple of diferent situations. The likely cause is caused when your system regenerates and is not getting a good rinse. This can be caused by a programing error or by a problem with the control valve mechanics. The other possibility is a malfunction with the internal bypass valve not closing properly during regeneration.

What do I check for, I don't have a owners manual or anything.
I called my plumber and he says he doesn't know how to fix it, he just puts them in.
Quite frankley I'm beginning to think I got ripped off on this deal.
My builder sold it to me because it was the only legal system for our area. I has all the certifications to be installed. I paid $ 2,300 for it and with all the hassles I've had, I don't think it was worth it.
Please help me out, I don't know where to turn.

The first and easiest thing to check is the level of the water in the salt tank. unless your system is a large system (the tank over 52" high) the water level in the salt tank shouldn't be over 1/2 full. If the fill valve is leaking or doesn't close the water level will be to high causing it to use to much salt when it regenerates. when this happens the rinse cycle can't purge all the salt form the mineral tank and you get salty water for the first 10 or more gallon of water after regenerration.
What is the level of the water in the salt tank?
What is the diameter and heighth of the mineral tank? You can measure it or there will be a label embedded in the fiber of the tank with the size on it.
If you'd like to tell me where you live I can try to locate a qualified service tech in you area incase you need service now or in the future. I can also try to locate an online owners manual if you can give me the model or a description of the control valve.
There is NO LAW that states a product is the only legal system. I've heard this before and it is not correct.

Thanks Bruce for wanting to help me here I'm so frustrated with this pile of s**t system its making me nuts
I have 30inches of water in the salt tank. The softener tank is covered in some kind of shiny sleeve theres no label except the R&M Manufacturing and Eliminator labels. It seems to be about 12 1/2 inches wide and about 55 inches tall. Theres no model number listed on the top controller valve - It has a red display;a big black button and a red button on the front. -does that help?
I live in Woodland Hills, Utah
thanks again
Alex

My neighbor has a Intermountain system, so I called them for a diagnosis.
The tech found the problem in just a few minutes - the drain hose was kinked under the water so the system couldn't rinse right.
Trip Charge: $87.50
New Drain Hose: $10.00
No more salty water: PRICELESS :D

I'm glad to see you got your softener fixed. Intermountain will take good care of you. I'm in southern Nevada but I have been an Intermountain dealer for 20+ years. They are a VERY reputable company.
