Hi

I saw this product on Costco's website and want to see if it will work for me.

-How does it work ?

-Can it be used with a tankless water heater like a Rinnai ?

-Is it safe

-Is it really ZERO waste ?

I want to protect and conserve the environment, so this is important to me - I don't want to waste water. Its not a unlimited resource like the sun.

I'm not a fan of this particular device. It's a crude attempt at brine recycle/recovery.

It CAN'T be used with a tankless water heater.

I am VERY concerned about the long term impact of forcing brackish water back into the water heater. That water is highly conductive and full of mineral/metallic ions - Will Watts guarantee that your water heater will not corrode or fail prematurely ?

Beyond my concerns about high TDS water going to the water heater, I can see any other safety concerns.

Waste is relative. Water cannot be created or destroyed so one could say that it is "infinitely renewable". As humans, we're very concerned about "waste", but when you look at our planet holistically, it is full of "waste" - trees dropping their fruit, rivers wasting water to the ocean etc...

I personally feel that an RO discharging concentrated brine to drain is LESS WASTEFUL than a distiller using electricity to boil water to purity. That "wasted" drain water goes to the municipal plant or to the septic and eventually is returned to the ground and air.

Many self-proclaimed eco-experts lament the "waste" of an RO or even the "waste" of a water softener/conditioner/filter, but in reality, these devices are actually MORE environmentally friendly than they realize. Cleaning the water for drinking and general household/industrial use can actually lower the property's carbon footprint, minimize the usage of harmful chemical cleansers and prolong the serviceable life of water-using devices. There are countless other benefits that are good for the pocketbook and the environment.

All we do with an RO, is extract pure water from the existing supply and then return the rest of the water back to nature. - I don't see that as wasteful at all.

RO's DO NOT WASTE WATER - THEY USE WATER !!!!!
