I have had my softener for 5 years. It blew a tranformer for the controller and didn't cycle for a while until I noticed it. Now when I put the softener into service it will kill the water pressure and I have to put the valve in bypass to get water. Thus making it pointless to have the thing. Any suggestions because I am tapped out. thanks

If this is a fleck/clack system with a piston, its possible that the piston is stopped between cycles, which will definitely drop pressure in the house.
What kind of system do you have, and have your replaced the transformer yet ?

yes I have replaced the transformer. I also used the manual and took apart piston assembly and insured the piston and seals are operating properly. The control is a econominder 5600 and I think that is made by fleck but not sure. The control has a cover that says Steel Tech if that means anything. I definatly appreciate your help.

If it's the one I'm thinking of... http://www.steeltecwater.com/steeltec_products.htm
Distributed by The LeverEdge company.
- Your is an older model. Most of their Steeltec systems include a bed of KDF-55 on a gravel underbed. Do you know if yours has the KDF ?
Your KDF might have agglomerated which can also cause pressure drop.
The 5600 econominder motor runs 24/7 and must be carefully installed to ensure that it engages the timer gears. - Does your system keep the time properly ?
