Hi

We just moved into a home in Salt Lake City. Our home has a water softener that seems to be running down the drain all the time. Is this normal ?

Thanks

A constantly running softener is generally abnormal

What brand of softener do you have ?

I don't know-The timer box on top of the tank says Imperial. The sticker on the tank says Accurate Plumbing, but the number is disconnected.
The tank says Park International, but from reading the forum, it sounds like that's just the name of the company who mfd. the tank ?

I can send a picture if you like.

Imperial is a brand that we manufacture. Does your system have a black face with 5 buttons and an LCD display ?

How tall is your system ?

The tank is about 5ft tall and about 9 - 10 inches wide - it is white.
The Park International sticker says RT-1060

The salt tank is 18-19 inches wide and 40 inches tall

That's a 64,000 grain Imperial Water Softener with 541 metered electronic control. From the information you've given, I'd guess it to be around 10 - 15 years old.

Your drain paddle valve is most likely seized up from lack of maintenance.
With it running down the drain, you're not able to soften the water at all.

Please call our toll-free service hotline 1-800-454-3429 to schedule a service visit. Our service department can take good care of you.

Hey Greg

I thought I'd drop you a quick note about my experience with your service department. The technician can to my house and evaluated the system. The drain paddle valve was indeed running down the drain, and he also looked at the softening resin in my tank. After he analyzed it with his microscope, he showed me that the resin attrition was 50 - 60%, so he fixed the mechanics on the control head and added more hydrolyte to my tank. My water is soft now and my wife is happy. The repair wasn't cheap, but everything is working now.

Thanks for your help.
