View Full Version : Stupid Mistakes

As I've posted on another thread here, my water is finally looking great. But I did have a few hours after exchanging one of my valves where my water didn't look so good. First I thought I had failed to put one of my tanks online and triple checked the bypasses. Next, I figured I had just disturbed the beds of my tanks and so I backwashed everything thoroughly. Fortunately I noticed my flow light was not blinking on the new valve when water was flowing. At first I groaned and blamed the valve. Guess what? The valve should have had an error message saying "REVERSE FLOW: you hooked me up backwards dummy!"
Silly mistake one:
Forgetting to confirm that the in water is going in the IN hole and the out water is going out the OUT hole!
My only excuse is that in my crawlspace it is difficult to get above the valve to see the directional arrow. Also I have these great flexible unions from Falcon Stainless that make it easy to forget what goes where. Anybody have a more elementary mistake they have made? Oh, my wife was not too impressed when I told her the reason our water didn't look so good was because I'd installed my new valve backwards. dfm out

Classic !

It could have been worse !

The best I've seen so far is the guy who installed his softener in his crawl space and laid the system on its side because it was too tall.

He just couldn't understand why the softener wasn't working properly :o

Post some water tests sometime, I'm curious to see how the pH & iron levels are resolving.

Ha! The horizontal softener installation is a good one. That'd be one to take a picture of if you saw it in person.

I will post some tests soon. I feel that in just a few days my system will be stabilized after installing the 7000 (backwards) and I can get some typical results. I'll keep you posted. dfm

It's been almost a year, has your water quality remained good ?
