Hi Intermountain

I just got a new Home Empowered Water System from my plumber installed in our new home. The water tastes wonderful, but it just doesn't feel soft at all. I payed a lot of money for this thing and I want soft water ! Whats your warranty policy on these things ?

Hi Jake

Thank you for your question. Please rest assured that you have a high quality system backed by relentless customer service, so you're in good hands.

The Home Empowered Water System is designed to produce water that is "soft" (free of calcium and magnesium) without the slimy feel commonly associated with traditional softening systems. Since you mentioned that it taskes great, I hope that's just the case here, and that your system is working according to specifications.

Please PM me with your contact info or go to www.fixmysoftener.com to locate your nearest service representative to schedule a free checkup on your system.

Best reards

Greg

Hi Jake

I got your info on PM, I'll have a simple test kit mailed out to you tomorrow morning first thing. It's quite rudimentary:-

Soap is used to inducate the presence or absence of dissolved calcium (hardness) in water.

Fill the vial half way with water, add one drop of soap and then shake.

If you get a nice head of suds, the water is soft - free of calcium & magnesium.

Let me know how it goes.

Well, I'm quite embarassed :o

It turns out the the machine is actually working fine. The test kit shows perfectly soft water on both hot & cold water, but it doesn't feel slimy at all. I could actually get used to this :D

Greg, what do I need to do to the machine maintenance-wise, the plumber didn't leave any kind of documentation at all with it. I've filled it with salt, but what goes in the little tank inside, it's about 1/2 full with a green liquid. What is it, what does it do, why do I need it, where do I get more ?

You're not the first. Some people take a month or two to get used to the concept that you can have soft water that doesn't feel slimy. I have one in my house and I absolutely love it !

All of your instructions, warnings and warranty are on a large yellow sticker inside the system tank - you'll see it when you lift the lid up. Due to the advanced electronic controls on it, the system if largely self-regulating, it makes lots of decisions in the background to learn your lifestyle and accomodate itself to the way you and your family live.

Pur-Gard is critical for proper system functionality - learn more about it at http://www.pur-gard.com

I recommend that you have our service department visit your home annually to tune-up your system and make sure that you have the very best water. They can test the water, recalibrate the system as necessary, perform software updates, and refill your Pur-Gard for you as needed.

Good luck with your new system, and thank you again for choosing Intermountain Soft Water ! :)

I had the same experience with mine. I switched from a regular softener on the advice of my plumber (Neerings Plumbing Heating & Aire) and it really surprised me that I could have everything a softner does while the water feels normal and actually tastes good.

I do have a question though, I set my system to clean at 2am, but it's still cleaning at 6am when I get up and I have to w2ait for it to finish before I can take my shower. How do I change this ?

Hi Minky, your system, like many of our other models uses Evertech and "Digital Lifestyle" technologies, making it "smarter" than any other control system that I know of. Of particular importance to your question is the fact that your system incorporates a unique cleaning method called "dry brining". The system cleans itself in multiple stages, so we simply need to set the cleaning time back to 11pm to solve your problem completely.

At 11pm, the system will draw an exact dose of Pur-Gard and inject it into the brine tank to help clean & disinfect. The system will then fill the brine tank with a measured amount of water using fractional brining technology; which essentially observes how much of it's capacity has been exhausted, compares today's cleaning to the past and also takes into account your hardness & iron settings as well as a few other factors. Once the exact amount of water has been dispensed into the brine tank, the system will percolate for 3 hours, to ensure proper brine saturation.

After 3 hours (2am in this case), the actual cleaning cycle will begin, which can last anywhere from 1 - 2 hours, depending on your water chemistry, water consumption and system age.

I hope that makes sense and thank you for choosing Intermountain !

How did you like the Neerings service experience ?

Neerings was fantastic!!! - My technitian was Pete and he was very kind in explaining everything to me that I needed to know without talking down to me. They did some other work for me too and were very professional. He wasn't like other plumbers that I've had in my home before. He was clean, respectful & honest. Neerings definitely isn't cheap, but I think they're worth the extra money since you really get the deluxe treatment. Thanks for the advice and explanation on the cleaning time, I will change it today. Thank you for making a excellant product, I really enjoy it.
