That's based on a Clack WS-1 control valve.
That might just be par for the course. I've found the drivetrain on those valves to clatter and the backwash to be noisy - two of the three reasons why I dodn'y spec. their valves when I design systems.
Clack released an aspirated drain elbow that helps significantly with backwash noise, but you're unfortunately stuck with the drivetrain noise.
Bypass it and run a short cycle. If you don't like the drivetrain noise, call your dealer and get a different model. If the greartrain noise isn't an issue, then you can quiet it down significantly by installing the new drain elbow and also wrapping the drain discharge hose in closed-cell insulation.

You're too nice greg, I refuse so sell that valve. Its a great idea, but poorly implemented and every 'instant water softener expert' on the planet is trying to sell them.
The only version of the WS1 that I like is the custom one that Hellenbrand uses - quite nice, full of features, but still noisy.

Bypassed it and it was quieter, wrapped fiberglass insulation around the tank and drain and it got quieter when it runs to clean itself.
Thanks for the help on this guys.
Why in the h#ll do they sell something so noisy? I can't be the only one who complains about it !

You're definitely not the first person that I've heard to complain about that valve.

Same here - The thing is a cheap piece of crap, we refuse to sell it.
