Hey Everybody!
I've only had my Stenner chlorine injection system for a couple of months and I'm getting ready to refill my chlorine tank again. Is it practical to use hydrogen peroxide instead of chlorine? As I understand, it is as effective and safer? Can one purchase hydrogen peroxide in bulk without breaking the bank? Thanks so much for any advice! dfm

Hi dfm - Welcome to the forums ! :D

Hydrogen Peroxide is a fantastic oxidant, but is highly volatile.
That volatility causes it to have a very short shelf-life. There are a lot of experts out there who recommend peroxide, but my experience with it has been less than spectacular, since the shelf-life is so short.

A good way to demonstrate it to yourself, is to buy two bottles of peroxide from the store, leave one open & uncapped for a week and compare it to to the one that was capped. MAJOR difference in concentration.

Peroxide is generally safer/easier to handle, but it is just SO hard to maintain consistent levels in water, that I shy away from the stuff. I prefer chlorine or even permanganate feed in extreme circumstances.

Are you currently using bleach or are you mixing hypochlorite powder/pellets in your retention tank ?

I believe you! I'm not sure why I imagined hydrogen peroxide in my crawlspace would be any more stable than hydrogen peroxide in my medicine cabinet. My education continues... Thanks! dfm
