Kan-gen countertop water filter

My friends are telling me I need to get a Kan-gen machine to balance alkilinty in my body. The testamonials are impressive and I think the water tastes really good. I got sticker shock at the price - $3500.00 :eek: Is this a fair price for the machine ?

Does anyone know where I can get one for cheaper ?

I'm not a doctor, so I'm definitely not qualified to comment on the health claims on their website...but I'm definitely skeptical.

The Kangen is an electrolysis device.

Electrolysis devices produce acidic & alkaline fluids using salt water (brine), an anode, a cathode and a semi-permiable membrane.

The acidic fluid is hypochlorous acid and the alkaline fluid is dilute sodium hydroxide (dilute caustic soda).

If you want the same water at almost no cost, just add caustic soda to carbon filtered water drop by drop until it matches the pH level that you're looking to drink.

I wouldn't pay $3500 for that device.

I agree with greg-cws. The electrolysis process is legitimate, but any health benefit from drinking highly alkaline water is not legitimate at all. Show me one peer-reviewed paper that has shown hard evidence that this is even possible. I can't see your body pH changing from the pH of what you eat or drink. Your body's pH is a function of metabolic precesses, not drinking acids or alkalis.

Your stomach is full of acid. If you drink highly alkaline water, it is neutralized by the stomach acid. How does it ever get into you bloodstream - it's stupid.

Your blood pH is controlled by metabolic byproducts like carbon dioxide, not the pH of the water that you drink.
